Delta Travel Advice

I am currently 140 MQMs from reaching Gold Status for Delta Skymiles. I don’t have much vacation time left this year but being that close to the next tier, especially because they are changing their rules, where could I go/do to make it worth it?

I don’t really think it’s worth stressing out over reaching gold. The amount of platinum and diamond folks out there is incredible, making the free upgrades highly unlikely (which I think is the best perk of status)

It’s the 2nd Delta elite tiger, equivalent to AA Platinum. Gets you SkyTeam Elite+ when traveling abroad for lounge access.

You could do an out/back same day to Atlanta for lunch or dinner. Consulate or Amore are some of my favorites but I assume Atlanta has a slew of good spots. Or are there any professional-type visits or customres there?

As others have said - you can make it MSY-ATL-MSY in a few hours and under $200.

How much do you plan on traveling next year? I am about $1500 away from Diamond and will probably burn that to keep it. I will have about 500k MQMs so I can buy Diamond for a few more years. I take about 100-125 segments a year.

Gold gets you Sky Priority boarding. I am shocked how often I get upgraded to Comfort + I fly about 4 to 8 segments a month for work. My company makes us buy the cheapest flights

Ours does the same for the most part, but if I'm able to buy early enough, I use miles or just pay for it after I buy the ticket. I flew to Monterrey, MX a few weeks ago and when I bought the ticket, Comfort + was a $40 upgrade. No brainer.

This is wild to me. With AA, all elites get these for free. I think AA Gold (Delta silver) has to wait until check in to select them, but the rest can select them when booking.

Gold might carry weight next year as a lot of the Covid rollover will drop off.
Just do a cheap same day RT to ATL. Book main though as I don’t thing Basic economy counts for mileage. Double check that.
Sky Priority is the biggest perk with baggage check and security lines.
