I've heard of Jaco, but not many other places. Looking to go with my gf and another couple. Want to have a good time. Sit on beach and drink all day is my idea, with some girls bringing me drinks. What are y'all suggestions?

Costa Rica is legendary for outdoor activities and world-class offshore fishing.

Panama laughs at Costa Rica fishing.

I've been to both and Panama >>> Costa Rica and it's not even close.

Just went to CR with the gf and another couple. Best vacation I've ever had. We stayed in Dominical. Email me. I have a very nice, inexpensive place to stay. It's right outside of Manuel Antonio National Park.

This. I'm planning a trip to CR soon to catch some roosters, but Panama is probably the best fishing in the world. I spent a couple weeks in Panama a couple years ago and still kick myself for not making time to fish.

Willing to share that with others? I've been looking at AirBnBs in the Quepos area, but hadn't decided on that or a hotel yet.

In a lot of ways. But Panama has a ways to go when it comes to being tourism friendly. Sure, some day it will surpass Costa Rica as a tourist destination. But it's not there yet and for people inexperienced in travel outside the US Costa Rica is probably the place to start.

I believe he was referring to the fishing. I know I was. I didn't really care too much for Panama. Just never had a real welcome feeling from the locals, like I have in many other places. Maybe I was just a dick, due to the way the job was going at the time...

Wildlife in general and the rain forests are my thing. And the birds, monkeys, sloths, etc. are better in Panama. Especially in the canal zone which has preserved their habitat in a huge area.

And I'll agree that Costa Ricans are friendlier and they have a much better tourism infrastructure. This is probably partly due to the US invasion of Panama. But Panama has the potential to become the next Costa Rica. If they chose to.

Nah, most just don't like Americans. South Americans are much nicer.

Went to Panama and it was a good time. We stayed in Panama City, so we had to drive a ways to get to the beach. The taxi drivers in PC are insane drivers and they love to honk their horns constantly. Haven't been to CR, so I can't compare.

I've only been to CR, but it was the most amazing vacation I have had. We stayed in El Sueno, which is about 30 mins north of Jaco.

Fished one day and caught 7 sailfish, but that was a minor part of the trip. Zip lineing 100 feet in the air, 4-wheelers through the mountains (and stopping at little shacks for beers in between towns), surfing (or trying to), boat tours into the mangrove forest to feed wild monkeys, shopping, eating, drinking... it was a week that went by in an instant.
