Planning to stay and tour downtown. I’m hoping not to rent a car but use cabs, Uber, hotel shuttle, etc. So, how is public transportation around Chicago. I’m thinking about jumping around the city and maybe one longer drive as far as say, Northbrook.

I had a good experience on the buses in San Antonio. Hoping Chicago has something similar.

We took buses, the L, and occasionally used Lyft when we there. It was fine. Just get a Ventra card and either load with a pass or do pay as you go depending on how much you'll be using it.

Buy the 3 day pass for all public transportation. Seems like it was only $10. I've been twice and used the pass for the subway from O'hare to downtown. No problems.

I’ve always used to L or trains in Chicago. Never had any issues

The 'L' is easy to navigate/move into different parts of the city from The Loop. If you're looking to make an east/west maneuver (i.e. Lincoln Park <--> Wicker Park), though, I'd recommend using Uber or Lyft to save time.

Well said. Chicago transportation is very good, you should not have any issues at all. As said, if you are staying downtown there's a train to both airports.

I was not a fan of the public transportation in Chicago. Bus took forever and the L had a rough crowd at night. I use public options in other cities, but not Chicago.
