Thinking of taking a long weekend and see the chickamunga battlefield and maybe do lookout mountain and ruby falls.

Was wondering if anyone here had recomendations for bars or restaurants in the downtown area?

We are at Tupelo Honey Cafe downtown two weeks ago. It was really good!

Northshore:

Aretha Frankensteins is a cool little bar/pancake breakfast place. It's a weird little house, so don't get fooled if you go there.

Tremont Tavern has some really good burgers.

Brewhaus is a decent german inspired pub

Downtown:

Tony's Pasta Shop is a decent traditional Italian place that makes everything from scratch. Very good date night location. Easy walk to the walking bridge and in the art district. Will score if you do a date night here.

The Terminal is a pretty good pizza bar that does microbrews.

Alleia is a really good Italian fusion type of place, but is more in the $30-40 per meal range or more with alcohol.

Champy's Fried Chicken is good, does have beer as well. It can be extremely greasy. Don't get the tenders, they aren't very good. Run by a guy from Louisiana.

Urban Stack is a decent burger joint, not a huge fan, but go often cause it is close to work.

Yellow Deli is a very good, but very interesting sandwich shop right next to UTC. It's run by some weird cult people that don't like pig, so don't ask for bacon or ham. Good lunch spot.

1885 Grill is a steak/seafood type of place that does some very good stuff

Two Ten Jack is a mostly ramen noodle/japanese type of place that is decent. Doesn't do hibachi.

Tupelo Honey Cafe is a chain out of Asheville that people seem to like a lot, I don't get it...

Sticky Fingers is the local BBQ joint. Not the best, but not bad either. There is better stuff out of the downtown area.

Clyde's is hit or miss. The meatloaf seems to be great, the poboys I would stay away from if you are expecting Louisiana food. It's a pretty neat bar though and close to some other cool stuff.

Chattanooga Brewing Company is a brewery with very good bar food. Beer kinda sucks IMO though.

Public House is something some people like, I am not a huge fan of it anymore though because I went to it too many times for lunch while at work.

St Johns/Meeting Place is good, little higher end than casual.

Main Street Meats has a good burger as well.

Lupi's or Community Pie for Pizza. Lupi's does a better traditional pie, similar to Mellow Mushroom. Community Pie does a Neapolitan pizza that's good as well.

Lookout Mountain:

Cafe on the Corner on top of Lookout Mountain if you want to get lunch up there, they have some pretty good things.

Deserts:

Getting Ice Cream from Clumpies by Coolidge Park or the Ice Cream Show by the Hunter Museum and going for a night time stroll across the foot bridge mentioned about Tony's is also a good time to score points.

We also have the Hot Chocolatier over by the Choo Choo. The frozen hot chocolate here is good and they have a bunch of sweets as well.

Bars:

Main Street area has a bunch of bars, Flying Squirrel is snooty bar. Southside Social is pretty good spot with a lot of fun activities in the bar. Clyde's is the same way as Southside. There is a bunch of new stuff around the Choo Choo I haven't checked out yet.

UTC area has college bars. Bitter Albi and Honest Pint aren't too bad. Hutton and Smith is another brewery.

If you feel like taking a bit of a drive out of town, Ceniza is a pretty decent Cuban place out my way. Been eating there a bit lately. Can go to the Little Debbie factory store while out this way and get some cheap Little Debbie. Like $1.50 a box or so. Use to be .50 to .70 a box before they remodeled the store. I had to avoid it like the plague.

Lol thanks for all the recs. Do any of the bars you mentioned have live music regularly or is it something I will need to just play by ear?

I think there are some live music places that just opened up as part of the Choo Choo upgrade they got finished doing.

Most of them do, not sure how regularly. Would have to probably check their website.

Fried Green Tomato sandwich is great. Go to that place all the time. I like Urban Stack for burgers, Taco Mamacita and Firebird Grill. Few good sushi places, Donut place across river, forget name.

Clyde's usually has live music on the weekends. There is always some band playing at the Revelry Room (tickets required) which is next to the ChooChoo.
