Live in New Orleans but usually always have the week off in between Christmas and New Years. I know this is probably not a cheap time to travel because a lot of people are in the same situation. Looking for a cool place to visit around that time where I might be able to ski a couple days but also have other options if I don't want to ski 5 days in a row. Don't mind flying but also don't want to drop $5,000 for me and the wife. Any cool winter getaway recommendations?

I was looking up the German Christmas markets. You can get there for less than 1500 a piece during christmas.

That's not laughably unreasonable imo.

6 nights at a ski resort plus flights and other activities for 2 during that time of year? And he's asking for "best"... Travel and lodging will be 3k alone at the very least and that's low-balling. Food, ski rental, car rental, etc. Nothing under 5k for what he's asking.

Never said ski resort. Just somewhere to see snow where skiing and other activities would be an option. Like Vancouver. A quick search I got airfare and hotel for $1800 for 2 people 4 nights

Then you won't be doing 5 days worth of activities; just 3.

Vancouver would probably be pretty cool. You could drive to ski in whistler.

You think spending 5000 grand or less for 5 days is laughable?

You can do that easily, even at ski resorts.

If he wants to do something for 5 days, that's 6 nights, correct? If he's coming from NOLA, that gets bookended by travel days. Those travel days and resort/hotel stays are during the most expensive time of year. He wants to ski anywhere from 2 to 5 days along with other "activities". And then the has "best" in the title. What am I missing?

You're interpreting "best" as in 5 star "this is one of the highest end resorts and first class travel".

I'm interpreting "best vacation destination" as in where would be an ideal place I can go that time of year for the money.

I'm really not.

New Orleans to Denver cheapest on google flights is $880. Checking anything close to a ski place in Colorado right now is running $200 per night minimum. Something decent closer to say Breckenridge is almost $400. But that's another $1200. So we are over 2k already and we haven't gotten a car or rented anything or eaten anything or done anything for 7 days.
