Looking to carry my Nikon d3300 with an extra lens and enough space for food/ water for an 8 mile hike.

Checking to see if anyone knows of some hidden gems out there

Lowepro Bag on Amazon ETA: Just saw that the price was $180! When I got it, it was just $80. Crazy.

You can remove compartments that you don't need. I'd also suggest a strap that goes across your chest. Like this Rapid7

I have a Mountainsmith lumbar day pack with the optional shoulder straps. I think it is a lot cooler than a backpack when it's hot. I carried it for two weeks on a trip to Europe. I was able to fit a Mefoto backpacker tripod, lenses and accessories in it without a problem. I can recommend the Peak Design Slide if you need a strap that hugs your body on hikes without hanging down. I also used it on a bike tour as you can slide the camera to your back and it will stay there.

There are tons of options. I'd look at reviews and read the comments on comfort and fit.

The Rapid7 is great, I can walk all day with my camera strung over my shoulder with no issues. For my camera bag, I use a normal backpack and then added a small camera bag inside the main portion of the backpack for my camera lenses.
