That would be Athens Greece, not Athens, GA. Staying at the AthensWAS in Plaka for three nights in a few weeks. Would like suggestions for good restaurants within walking distance or easily accessible by transit, and any helpful advice for visiting Athens.

Athens is great.

We went there in July of 2011 when there was a lot of protesting going on, but it wasn't really sketchy. A while later, the riots really heated up and I was glad I wasn't there.

It was awesome coming from Italy and Switzerland where everything was expensive. I don't remember anything specific though, except for the fact that my wife and I ate really well for less than $10 per person.

I loved Athens when I was there. Food is great, city is great. Plaka is a nice, central location. Check out Big Olive walking tours.

Lunch at Diporto. No menu, just sit down and the boss brings food and wine.

Upscale, Hytra in the Onassis Building.

Semi upscale, Varoulko on the little harbor in Pireas. Short subway or cab ride.

Check out beertime. Their answer to craft beer in Athens. It's an extremely cool setting and we really enjoyed it.
