Not sure how much time you have.

For Amsterdam; it may be too late to buy a ticket; but, the Anne Frank House is a pretty moving experience. They do release some tickets one week in advance. There is no option to buy a ticket on-site.

Google a self guided walking tour of the Center area. You can hit a lot of the landmarks by foot. The City is very walkable and the trains also work great.

The Grand Central Station area is a good launching point.

Eat some fries/frites. Seriously; they are a big deal there. As are fresh stroopwaffels.

It’s a beautiful City with no shortage of things to see/do. The Heineken experience is very popular.

The RLD/De Wallen is a fun walk. The area really doesn’t start rolling until nearly midnight. Just be on the alert for pickpocketing.

The City is actively working to get rid of the window girls. I doubt they’ll ever totally disappear; but, they’ve already greatly reduced the amount of them.

If making the trip from Amsterdam to the Hague consider dropping into Delft. It’s a beautiful town with a lovely square. Rotterdam has a few cool sites too.

The Hague is cool too. Make a point of hitting their art museum. Seeing Rembrandt, Vermeer and the other Dutch Masters in person is awesome. Admission is cheap and it’s not nearly as crowded as some of the museums in Amsterdam.

Rijksmuseum is a must attend IMO. Lots of Dutch masterpieces and artifacts. Affordable and easy to navigate. It’s near Vondelpark and good shopping so you can make a half day in the area.

Rent a bicycle for a true amsterdam experience plus you can get around a lot easier than using the tram. Starbikes Rental near the train station rents black bikes (no advertising on them that screams I'm a tourist) for about the cheapest rate you can find.

Go have a beer at the Blue Tea House (Blauwe Theehuis) in Vondel Park. Brewery T'ij took it over during the pandemic so they serve their beers only but they have decent brews.

Proeflokaal Arendsnest near the Anne Frank House is a Dutch beer only bar.

Indonesian food is to the dutch what Indian food is to the English. Kartika on Overtoom rd is really good.

Soup en Zo has great soups.

Cafe Du Spuyt is a great brown bar

Mike Tyson has a coffee shop called Tyson 2.0 in the Centrum. I was bummed we never made it there this summer and supposedly they have gummies in the shape of an ear. Gray Area is where we usually go.

As others have said, the museums are great.

I would recommend the Dutch Reisitance Museum. You can get through it in less than two hours and it’s a really good look at the Nazi occupation of Amsterdam during WWII. De Plantage across the street is a good place to grab a beer after.

Really liked the Jordaan area for beautiful canals and cafes. Albert Cuyp market is good for a fresh stroopwaffel. Zero Zero for a good sandwich on the go. Rijksmuseum is a must and that whole area in the museumplein is nice.

If you want to do a bike tour Mike’s Amsterdam Bike Tours countryside tour was a great tour. You start in the city across from the Rijksmuseum and bike outside the city to a Dutch farmhouse where you can buy fresh Gouda made on site. The owner of the farm is batshit crazy and will likely go on a rant about globalization. But the cheese is delicious.

You can rent your own little electric boat and zip around the canals at your leisure. I would recommend stocking up on cheese, bread, and wine and renting your own boat and drink and eat your way around the canals on your own self-guided trip over the guided boat tours.

Van Gogh museum. Anne Frank was too crowded for me.

Our Lord in the Attic museum is a catholic church that was hidden in a warehouse when Protestants ruled Amsterdam. Pretty neat the layout. You get to walk all around and not crowded.

Keep your head on a swivel. If you're not paying attention, you can get run over by a cyclist.

Nice, what part of town do you live in? We always talk about moving there, we have friends that live there, but we couldn't handle the dark, wet and cold winters.

Eastern side of the city center, so close to/between Artis Zoo, Brouwerij 't IJ windmill and NEMO.

Really great part of town because it's very central but completely untrafficked by tourists.

The winters can be grim, currently scheming with the missus to buy a second place in Spain and live part-time there throughout the year.

To OP:

If you're a confident cyclist, do rent bikes.

Weather permitting a leisurely ride/stroll and picnic/general sitdown in Vondelpark for people watching is always nice.

Nice (but expensive)cocktails and aerial views of the city at Luminair cocktail lounge (top of Double Tree Hilton next to Centraal Station)

Aside from the usual suspects Scheepvaartmuseum (maritime museum) is also nice and less crowded.

Sample Dutch beers in a cozy "bruin café" at Aarendsnest

NDSM wharf is an artsy area being revitalized on the North (Noord) area of town, a free 10 minute ferry ride from the Centraal Station.

De Pijp area is trendy and lively area with lots of bars, shops and restaurants.

For coffeeshops - Catch 33, Solo, Bagheera are my go-to spots.

Also as others mentioned ITT, renting a self-piloted boat is possible and nice activity time and weather permitting (they're not covered) - the best company is Sloepdelen, but not sure if it's accessible to tourists - barring that Mokum Boot is also solid.

Food:

- Try Dutch Apple Pie (appeltaartje) and Winkl
- Ramen at Ramen Kingdom
- Excellent Chinese at Sea Palace, Oriental City or FULU Mandarijn
- High-end Indonesian at Blauw

I can offer a lot more food recs if you let me know your preferences/same for bars and nightlife or excursions outside of the city.

For Den Haag - Escher Museum is a must-see.
