Anyone have any experiences? We (family of 4) are flying into Nice on 6/3 and heading to Finale Ligure for a few days of mountain biking then looking for other options in that general region (planning on staying mainly in Western Italy. We fly back on 6/14.

We aren't really that into large cities and crazy travel itineraries (see 5 museums in a day). The only big city we're considering going to would be Florence, but we may just do Genoa instead to avoid the long travel time to Florence from Finale.

The real question, though: has anyone do an agriturismo stay? It's pretty appealing to me, but I'm curious to hear of any personal experiences from the board.

We’ve done two. One in the Piedmonte region and one in Tuscany. The one in Piedmonte is as staying at the vineyard and offered more options (like a tasting dinner in the premise). The one in Tuscany was not rustic and everything to do was up to us.

Yeah... we watched the Stanley Tucci series, and I was hoping for a whole, "eat family style at night and learn about culture" type experience, but it looks the agriturismo site almost functions like an Italian AirBNB with just houses and such available for rental without any real experience attached to the place.

That is a great vacation.
Twice I have stayed at a villa in the Tuscan countryside about 20 miles south of Florence and I would rate that as one of my favorite vacation destinations. Sadly, my place has been sold as a private residence in the past year or so and is no longer available to rent. When I found out about that I started a thread on here asking for replacements and got some excellent recommendations although I haven’t tried any of them yet.

It depends on the agritourismo. Some do offer more services. We chose to stay on working vineyards because we were all about the wine.

Thinking of going to the Asti region just north of Genoa. I have heard it is fantastic.

Firenze is a fantastic city, i love it. But during june and july the touristi are insane. You might not have that great of time, Genoa probably better. Seems like from June-July 1/2 of Firenze's population is Chinese.

Our family of 4 stayed at Agriturismo Savernano in Tuscany a few years back. Loved it. Nice train ride into Florence, great dinners, and awesome house wine. We still order cases of the chianti, prosecco, and olive oil to be shipped here.

Last Spring, we stayed at an Agriturismo called Le Mandrie Di San Paolo outside of Assisi. It was on the east side of Italy, but worth going. Great restaurant and fun experience.

We also stayed at La Foce, with the beautiful gardens, in the Providence of Siena near the town of Montepulciano. In the heart of Tuscany, but more central Italy. It was probably a little nicer than an agriturismo, but close to one.
