When do they come out with the fall specials? I want to book now, but obviously want to get the best deal. We got free dining a couple years ago when we booked around this time for a fall trip, but it seems like things are behind as I just received a flyer in the mail yesterday for summer specials.

Those "specials" are mostly on an as needed basis when they need to fill rooms. Disney has been doing very well. Also, you aren't their target for that special. They want the family in the fence who's looking for places to go and then Disney becomes a viable option with the price deal. You are already in it seems.

What's the final day to sign-up for their summer packages? The next round of package discounts are usually released to the public not long after the end date of the prior offer.

And you could always book now and then call Disney to get the discounted rate once it's announced....you just need to keep an eye out for it because they will "run out" of the # of discounted rooms at some resorts faster than others.

With the new tiered pricing structure being introduced this year, I wouldn't expect to see any specials. Prices are now based on off, regular or peak season. During October food and wine feast is going on and last year produced a 90% sell rate on rooms without any major specials.

If they do decide specials are needed, you can always call and get the deal.

The tiered pricing they introduced recently is on single-day park tickets. It should have no bearing on the seasonal specials as those are on room rates, room/multi-day ticket packages and dining. They had specials last year which help get the room rates as high as they were.

As mentioned before, if you book and then a discount comes out later, you can call and they will apply that discount for you.

Also, fall specials for WDW usually involve free dining. If you go October 5-11, we'll be there, baw!

We booked through a certified Disney travel agent and she said that rumor was that there would be no free dining this year but that they were definitely going to do room discounts.

My guess is she has been saying that for the last 5 years. That rumor has been out there a while now.

When you price the vacations with free dining as compared to some other discount they would offer at the same time, the only people who really come out ahead are those who stay at value resorts or do a TON of character dining. You can take advantage of other discounts and usually come out the same or even ahead financially.

The dining plan is not a value, which is why Disney loves it so much and has offered FREE to people year after year.

I agree with all of this. Every year we hear, "no free dining this year" but then it's offered. Like I've said in other posts, free dining is usually offered at the same time as room-only or package discounts. Those discounted rates are the better option 95% of the time. In only certain cases where someone was hell bent on table-service dining every night with multiple character meals while ordering the most expensive food options would free dining be a better option.

And if you do use a travel agent to book a Disney trip, any one of them that's worth a damn will constantly check Disney's discounts and get that applied to your vacation ASAP.

Highly likely!

I know that the better resort you stay in the higher promotion you get.

Correct. Look at the current discount offers right now:

Deluxe Villas (DVC) - 30% off
Deluxe Resorts - 30% off
Moderate Resorts - 25% off
Value Resorts - 20% off

Now, it IS important to know that discounts are not available at all resorts...AND the resorts that are included in the offers have limited quantities of rooms earmarked for the discounts.

My travel agent told us that they normally get wind of it a day or two before they announce it and they are on top of the day they come out. So hopefully she was telling the truth.

I'll get wind of it before then. Usually what they do is announce it to Disney Visa holders, Annual Passholders etc first, then allow it for the general public shortly therafter
