7 nights in Amsterdam - how far to stray?

Going in April for tulips and whatnot, staying at the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel. Is Brussels too far for a day trip? Wife and I have no problem waking up at the crack of dawn to catch a train, but also don’t want to spend too much time traveling on a week long trip.
What’s the farthest you would go from Amsterdam on an 8 day 7 night trip?

Pretty far. Amsterdam is too small for an entire week. You’ll be looking for day trips.
Brussels is just under two hours so very doable for a day trip.

Absolutely go to Bruges for the day. Just got back from there and it is a great medieval town. Like stepping back in time. You can see most of it in a day.

I spent 2 weeks there and didn't even scratch the surface. I've spent 3 or 4 1 week periods there and still find new stuff.
To the OP, Brussels is doable, I think it's 2 hours each way and really once you see the plaza, which is beautiful, eat some lunch and head back. Other day trios from Amsterdam would be Ultrecht which is a pretty nice town,do the Gerrit Rietveld house tour if you are at all in to mid century modern. There is also a nice San Antonio type river walk area.

My parents did a bike and barge tulip trip this past April and if you are there that time of year I would absolutely recommend looking into a couple bike trips. Its super flat and you can rent electric bikes. Get out of the city and just do a big bike loop through the countryside. They love riding bikes there so its extremely bike friendly.

Must have spent too much time in the weed shops.

I would certainly spend a night or two somewhere else, be it Brussels, Bruge, countryside of Netherlands or somewhere in Germany.

I will agree with the posters who say Bruges is a must for a day trip. If you have another day, then travel to Honfleur.

Since you're going for tulips be sure to do Keukenhoff one day. You won't be sorry.

....ya know, I rarely smoke weed in Amsterdam. Most people stay in the Centrum and Canal Zone and rarely venture out of those areas. We rarely go to those areas but instead go find the areas and neighborhoods where locals hangout. Amsterdam has a lot of neighborhoods off the beaten tourist path.
