They both seem pretty lit.

I got Google Home for $99 on sale last week, haven't set it up yet.

The general consensus was/is that Home will be better in the long run and that Google's assistant is significantly better and more accurate than Alexa.

You think the current model of Google Home will be able to function well with all of the inevitable updates or will there be a later model that they try to push on people?

I'd be safe getting the current model, you think? I'm cheap, hate wasting money

Definitely, there isn't going to be a new model for quite awhile.

What do you use for music? Your answer could potentially eliminate one.

I don't want google in my home any more than it already is. Let alone listening to me.

Ah. Well they both support that. I have google home and i love it. I really don't think you can go wrong either way though.

Pros to GH: Better AI, supports whole home, speakers connect via wifi using chromecast audios (this is just a personal thing for me, i'm not that big a fan of bluetooth).

Pros to Echo/Dot: If you go dot it's cheaper, AI is still plenty good, has more skills at the moment than GH since it has a 2 year jump (although a lot of these skills can still be done in GH, you just have to use workarounds for the time being), can order directly from amazon with your voice.

The biggest positive for the Alexa is the integration into Amazon. If you want something that will aid in your quest to go bankrupt buying everything you can from Amazon, Alexa is the better way to go.

I use Amazon all the time and order stuff through my Echo and Dot often.

Otherwise, go with Google.

Does Microsoft have anything in the works?

I know the xboxone is run by Cortana and as a nerd and halo enthusiast I would love to have a home system where I can say "hey Cortana" and get shite done

Dot=$39.99. I got one during Black Friday week that gave me a $10 gift card so it was essentially $29.99.

The last time I checked, $29.99>$99...from a cost effectiveness perspective...LOL

It's my 2nd one. I spent $49 on the 1st one. It's been really awesome. I can stream using Amazon Music, listen to 104.5 ESPN locally using TuneIn, get updates for morning news, weather and traffic, set timers, create lists and also arm and disarm my alarm system in the mornings.

Voice ordering stuff that I already have Dash buttons for is even more convenient than Dash.

I get Google Home may have more skills later, but on the same hand, Alexa may well be much more polished with her AI by that time as she's got that head start and a minimum of 24 months worth of customer interaction data using the world's most far and away dominant cloud based computing service.

Amazon has also partnered with Intel and open sources their Alexa API for IoT makers to integrate and not worry about voice/internet commands.

Well google home's equivalent is the echo, not the dot. Skewed price comparison. Not to mention you used black friday pricing for the dot and not the google home. Google home was $75 some places during black friday/cyber monday.

I'll believe amazon can equal google's AI when i see it. Personally, i doubt it, but stranger things can happen.

Can you get both? My wife (no pics) buys 60% of our household needs on Amazon but all I usually buy on it is Christmas presents. We both use the shite out of Google though (multiple chromecasts, Gmail, maps, music, remote desktop, YouTube, etc..)

So what if we just got both of them and called it a day? Could they both coexist, or would there be some sort of tech war?
