My S4 is showing underlined text ads, adcash popup, and I get a box that says I need to install media player 12.7. It started a few days ago after I tried to read an attachment my wife sent (was supposed to be house information for a vacation rental) and I have no idea how to stop it. Any suggestions?

Update - how do I remove c.betrad.com? I see it pop up under website settings (settings, content settings, website settings) but don't know how to get rid of it. I'm thinking that's causing the problems.

Says no threats detected. Here's what's happening when I open the TD Mobile forums.

A normal ad is up top for a second or two. Then it is replaced by "download" and "play now" buttons.

The bottom ad says "Media Player Update. This content requires media player 12.7. Would you like to install it now?"

I've tried several things such as malwarebites and avast but no luck making it go away.

look through your installed programs and see if there's something called media player that shouldn't be there.

Looking through the apps, I don't see anything out of the ordinary. To the android forums I go.

Did you look through settings>apps>running to see if you can find something that shouldnt be running?

Couldn't find anything that sticks out, but admittedly I don't really know.

When I switch to browse in incognito mode, everything is fine. I'll stick to that until I figure it out.

Google Chrome and explorer. Same issues on both. I went ahead and did a factory reset and all is good now.

Well that was fun while it lasted. Everything was fine until the phone downloaded it's updates. Now the issue is back so I'm guessing it's an issue with one of the phone's preloaded apps. Everything updated at once so no dice on which one it was.

Did your phone auto-download apps after you restored? Sounds like it was working at first and then something triggered it. Did you wipe all your data? I really have no clue about spyware/malware on android, but if its the same thing as in windows, it could be in your data... I even tried searching for information based on what you posted and came up with nothing.

Unfortunately not. I did wipe all my data also. When I get home I'll compare my wife's phone to mine and try to find the culprit.

And yes it started after the phone auto updated.
