If there is a good thread on this, please point me to it.

I currently just have DirecTV and go through T-Mobile for my internet (mobile hotspot).

Got to mess around with the Amazon Fire Box over the holidays and like it.

The things I normally watch on TV are the ESPNs, some network shows, Discovery, Speedvision, History, Comedy Central and a few others. Most of the serials, I can wait to watch (Walking Dead, etc.)

I have an air HD antenna that picks up about 10 channels in HD, including all the networks.

If I get the Fire Box, what else would I need to get the ESPNs and other cable shows? I know Hulu is available through the Fire Box. It is my understanding that you can browse the internet with Fire Box by using an app? I don't need hardcore internet, just browsing, paying bills, etc. I don't do any PC gaming.

Suggestions? Thanks in advance.

You won't miss any of that crap, I promise. I do use my dads ESPN password when I want to watch a big game at home. That's a few times a year probably. Rest of the time I go to friends house or the bar.

Check the fire stick review thread below. Install is the same on the box as the stick and there is a bunch of links and info available.

I'm running the tvmc build and just checked the istream add on and all 3 college games are listed as available for today to stream. I'm goin to check it out for the aggies game and see how the stream is.

Good point, I didn't notice he was using a hot spot. You need a solid connection if you are going to be streaming movies and tv, you would run over you limit pretty quickly unless you just don't use it much.

Well, technically it's 'unlimited' but they slow me down after a certain amount. I can't recall the limit, but it's not a ton.

So I would need a password for the Watch ESPN app. Hmm.

I cut the cord in September and got a Roku. I love it. I don't miss cable at all. I have my aunt's Dish login for watchESPN. Cut the cord. You won't regret it.

I have a 20 gig Verizon hot spot and could blow through that in a day or so watching streaming sites.

If you like live sports, do not cut the cord. You can get someone else's login info and go with watchESPN, but what you want to watch may be blacked out on that.

Live sports is all that is saving cable now and they know it.

I have basic-arse cable, bc its only $15 more on top of internet, pay like $55, down from $120.

I have a TiVo that my antenna is connected to (95%) of what I watch, as well as the basic cable. I can WatchESPN to see stuff in HD, but honestly, I just watch in standard def bc being 45 seconds behind bugs me.

ETA: with football season basically over, I'll probably drop the basic and just keep internet for $40.

Yeah, I would def need a new internet source. Which wouldn't break my heart at all.

What do you watch on Roku other than ESPN, Hulu, and Netflix?

Sundevil is the most popular. I have not tried it yet though.

To the OP: You want a real internet connection to cut the cord. If you want to test the limits of your hotspot though, just sign up for the free trial on Netflix watch it on your computer to see how bad they throttle you. You may want to check the fine print on your "Unlimited" plan before you test it though.

why?

HD antenna gets all ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC games

Streams of ESPN come through just fine in standard def for me (rarely is a *big* game on ESPN anyways)
