Sql express vs sql standard

Can anyone advise if there are any major drawbacks in performance from using sql express instead of the full version of sql? Licensing the full version of sql would be 5k for 20 users so if I can run express with no drawbacks in performance it would be preferred. I'm willing to purchase the full version if it will increase the speed and performance of the program however. The major difference I see between the full version and express is the database size but the 10gb database of express is plenty for my needs.

SQL Express allows the database to use only 1GB of RAM, which could make a huge difference in performance.

Try Express and see what you think performance wise. If you're just starting with it, you'll likely be fine.
Worst case, you can pick up standard later and migrate your data from express there.

Thanks. The DB size does not concern me but the max ram does because i'll have 15 users interacting with the db.

It does look like you can go to 4 cores, which would be fine for <10gb database and 15 users. The 1GB of ram will hurt some, but once again it is a small DB. Place the DB(s) on some SSD and it will help.
A decade ago companies were were running 100s of users on 100GB+ databases on 4gb ram (32 bit) and 8 cores. You will be fine.

If you are that small don't run 15 users. Run one admin user with SQL express and an application front end so that no one is directly touching the database except your DBA. Unless you have 15 DBA's, which I highly doubt, I would suggest this method. Then you can run a a community user for reporting for the other 14.
