I suppose I would get a fire stick. can someone help me out? I'm old. all I need to know is: if I just use fire stick, will I be able to get all espn channels?

Fire TV

Spin the extra $60 and get the better product.

You'll need cable credentials to log-in to watchESPN, though.

If you have a friend or family member who subscribes to cable or satellite, you will need to obtain their login information to their provider and enter it in on your device to be able to WatchESPN.

I ditched direct tv and went woth:

Slingtv $25
Netflix $10
Hulu $10

We also have Amazon prime and an antenna. Gets us more than enough stuff to watch. Only thing I wish slingtv had was a channel up/down button.

Main tv is going through a fire tv or xbox one. Fire tv is much better.

We ditch DTV. Currently running

3- Fire Tvs (way better for often watched tv
1-Fire Stick (use it in the kids room only)
1-Clearstream 4v OTA antenna wired to all tvs

For programming i use
1. Amazon Prime
2.Netflix (considering cancelling)
3. Playstation Vue $35.00 ( there is also a 30.00 package, but the one I have gives you all the ESPNs and SEC network)

I've never used sling tv, but I believe you can only stream to one device at a time, PS Vue lets you use up to 5. Also PS Vue gives you way more, for not much more money.

If you have any other questions check the giant cord cutting sticky, there is also a standalone 40+ page thread on PS Vue.

This sounds like a doable replacement. Is it a pain though not having all of that content available through one device? For example, watching a football game on CBS and on ESPN would entail switching TV inputs. I am guessing you get used to it. Also what about recording OTA programming?

I got a Tablo to solve these problems. It takes a little getting used to (switching channels is slow), but you can watch and record OTA stuff using an app on your streaming device of choice. It is a little pricey (~$300 for the Tablo plus you need an external hard drive), but I couldn't imagine cutting the cord without having DVR functions for my local stations.

I don't worry about recording OTA stuff, I can find most of that on Vue or various other sources online.

The OTA tuner I bought does have recording capabilities by hooking an external hard drive to it. Just never needed it, so I haven't used the option yet.

Tablo looked to be a good solution for it, I almost bought it when I was assembling my system, but decided to try without it first. Has been a good decision for me thus far.

As far as switching sources for various programming, it's not much more involved than changing channels for me so it hasn't been an issue.

I ditched DTV for a fire stick with kodi, Netflix, sling tv, and antenna, and Amazon prime.

I have everything on my main tv through my XB1, which still gives me a guide viewer for OTA channels.

I ditched a few months ago. Just shipped my equipment back in the kit they sent me. Very painless. I currently have:

Fire stick (at fiancés)
Apple TV (2014)
Ps4
HD Antenna
Chromecast

I get everything I watch including sports through

Cox Internet $90/mo (150dl and 30upload)
Netflix $12
PlayStation Vue $35
Amazon Prime
HBO Now $15

So while I'm still paying about $155 it includes the best internet possible (which I need for my work) and all my tv needs. Cheaper than paying for the expensive internet AND the $170 bill for DTV
