Sleep/Hibernate causing machine shutdown

Family had a laptop infected with tons of malware, etc. Ran malware bytes and windows defender and everything operates normally except if the machine goes to sleep it will not come back on unless you remove the battery and put it back on. It wakes after a normal shutdown or restart. It only occurs when attempting to wake after sleep. I've disabled the sleep but it can't be good to leave it running all the time. So they just shutdown when not in use. Any ideas?

Did you boot in safe mode and run malwarebytes? If not, do that first then reboot and run scan in normal mode. Verify/reset power mgmt settings for sleep/hibernation
