According to Military.com, the United States Army’s Special Operations Command will switch from Android to the iPhone. In the past, the Army has given soldiers an Android Tactical Assault Kit, equipped with what was believed to be a variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note.

The new iPhone Tactical Assault Kit, however, will feature the iPhone 6s. While the Army has yet to confirm the switch or offer any reasoning behind the decision, the source speaking to Military.com’s DodBuzz commented that the Android device would freeze up and have to be restarted relatively often.

The iPhone, on the other hand, has been found by the Army to be “faster and smoother.” The source also touted the graphic capabilities of the iPhone, calling them “clear” and “unbelievable.” Specifically, the Android device struggled the most with custom, split-screen military software:

And yet the technies at work laugh at me for having an iPhone. It's like Android makes them think they got an IQ boost.

iPhones have been in use by the DoD for over a year now.

Better than using shitty BlackBerrys.

People think the ability to access system files is some type of holy grail for phones. iPhone has proven all by itself that lack of access doesn't inhibit use and power user UI/UX use case experience for them in any way.

The phone is simply something that a vast section of the market has no desire to tweak beyond basic skins and apps.

Does a tactical iPhone still require a case that costs more than the phone to protect it if the soldier accidentally drops it in combat?

And if not, where can I buy a tactical iPhone?

I fully support our military buying American but they switched from a tablet to an iphone 6s. The obvious question is why didn't they switch to an ipad or a newer version of the note? The writer basically asks the same question:

=======================================================
It’d be interesting know from which Android device the Army is switching, but if it’s the original Galaxy Note that was released in 2010, then it makes perfect sense. The iPhone 6s is lightyears faster than the 2010 Galaxy Note, but if it were a more recent Note device, it’d be nice to hear the motivation behind the switch.
========================================================

My guess is the most likely motivation for the switch, as with many government contracts, involves some form of crony capitalism.

Eh, in my experience, most corporate businesses issue iphones as work phones anyway. Not really a surprise.

The Note is a phone.

Honestly Motorola (Lenovo) makes military grade phones. You just can't trust them (Chicoms). My problem has never been with Apple hardware. It's outstanding. However, their gilded cage and, in particular, mandatory use of iTunes has been the dealbreaker for me.

It's an absolute dealbreaker as long as I have a Google/Android option (which have problems of their own, I'll admit).

So they swapped from a galaxy note that's basically ancient to a new iPhone and they are impressed with the speed ??

Holy shite. Water is wet.

Let's give them iPhone 3s and let them try the new s7.

People preach this every day on this board and yet we still have multiple threads a week of people asking why their iphone isnt working.

When trying to run a split screen showing the route and UAS feed, the Android smart phone will freeze up and fail to refresh properly and often have to be restarted, a process that wastes valuable minutes, the source said.

does the original note run Touchwiz that utilizes split screen for apps? I cant remember if Samsung updated it to that.

I switched from iPhone to Android. I like Android and some options it has over the Apple product but I'm not sure I'll stay with it. I'm not loyal to one over the other.

They compared a Note 2 to an iPhone 6s. Of course that would be the result. Furthermore, Samsung does their own take on the android OS

This is a dumb story
