It's weird the things that excite you as you get older. I bought a Roborock Q5 Plus a couple of months ago. I wanted to wait to see how it performed, the app functionality, the flexibility and options it had available, and how user friendly everything was before I made a determination. These mapping robot vacs are absolutely freaking awesome.

I've had a Roomba and another brand of a non-mapping robot vac in the past and thought they sucked. Sometimes it would look like it cleaned the floor, and other times it would leave swaths of untouched areas. I guess that's what you get when it just randomly goes and vaccums.

I decided to give it another go a couple of months ago and did some research. This time, I wanted to get a mapping style robot. My research led me to try a Roborock. There are other reputable, well recommended robot mapping vacs out there, but I opted for the Roborock brand. I really do love this thing and the user friendliness of the app.

When I first bought it, I had it map all of the house. After it mapped everything, I went into the app and could see the entire layout of the house...kitchen, living room, kid's BR's, pantry, etc. I then tweaked it a tad and divided every room and labeled them in the app. If there were certain areas I wanted to vac, but leave other areas alone, I could do that. If I wanted to vacuum the whole house, I could do that. If I wanted to just hit certain rooms, I could do that. If I wanted to just vacuum a certain area/spot (using an expandable box thing within the app) then I could do that. I also set up a few no vac zones (under beds).

Something else I love is you can open the app as it's vacuuming (or check it afterwards) and see the pattern that it's performing and it leaves track lines (in the app) showing you the area that it's done already. It's overlaps just a little with each pass to ensure things aren't missed. It also has such a methodical, precise pattern as it's vacuuming; it's just impressive. It literally does not leave any of the area that you want vacuumed untouched.

If anyone has any questions about this thing, ask away. I love the hell out of this thing and how well it performs.

Have one and think it’s great; only issue with it is giving China access to my home network

It's a great vac. I had to do the mapping twice for it to setup properly and it was probably operator error. It does a great job, and it's a little taller than others wrt going under sofas. No problems with it at all and it the firmware updates automatically.
BTW i bought it last year online from Target for just over $200 less than other vendors.

You can isolate it if you want.

It's a great brand though. iRobot is so overpriced in comparison.

Expensive as hell. But I love that thing. It mops and vacuums. My house has never been cleaner. Worth every cent

How do these things handle pet hair? We've got a Golden Retriever that sheds an entire dog's worth of hair daily it seems.

I have the shark from Costco. 2 actually. One upstairs and one down.

They're great. I can use Alexa to tell it to go vacuum the bedroom and it is designed for pets so it does a great job getting my golden's ridiculous hair everywhere.

It returns to base to empty the bin then goes back to where it left off.

Gets hung up occasionally like when it closes the door on itself in a room but it does a great job overall.

The Wyze vacuum has been $150 at Walmart for a while now. Worth looking at if you’re considering one.

Freaking great. Have a Beagle and a Pug. The Beagle sheds a helluva lot. We have dark colored (almost black) engineered hardwood floors throughout most of the house and his brown and white hair shows up all over the floor by the day's end. I can turn the Roborock on and it sucks it all up. No complaints at all from me on how it sucks up dog hair.

We have the roborock that mops and vacs. I was skeptical of a microfiber pad being a good mop but the reviews were stellar. That thing is amazing. Floors stay looking so much cleaner than the vacuum alone. It also gets my oldest to clean up his floor everyday so it doesn't get stuck in his room. I just blocked it off from going in my youngest sons room.

I might try a robot vacuum again. My roombas beat the shite out of my baseboards and wood furniture. Wasn’t worth it

The main cons for me
- the on/off switch on the side is dumb. even recessed the doorstops will spring back and flip it off when its turning in a corner and the vac is off. i had to cover it with a piece of hard plastic and duct tape to keep my vac from constantly turning itself off as it was rotating away from the front door.

- it cant handle really fluffy rugs but does fine on carpet and oriental rugs. my daughter has a shag rug under her bed and it dies an ugly death when she leaves her door open and it ventures in there.

- the poor little spinning 'whiskers' get trashed so easily and have to be replaced if the bristles get pulled out.

- it stays on when it gets in a jam and while its nice that it sends a 'help' notification by the time i get home the battery has died so i cant use the locate feature to find it. once it gets stuck it should go into low-power mode so you don't have to go hunting for the vacuum. we had one lost for days and finally found it behind the toilet. it had gotten crammed in there in a way that you couldn't see it unless you were bending down and looking behind it.

Same. We have one for the house in BR and one for the apartment in Memphis (both are the self-empty XLs). They do excellent jobs.

The key to using these is keeping the vacuum clean. The first time you run it, you will be disgusted by the amount of crap it picks up. Also, it forces you to pick shite up.
I have mine set to run each day while we are at work. I also have it run, just in the kitchen and dining room, after dinner and clean up.

Why are you giving tech companies a map of your home?

Can confirm. Have had a Roborock for about 3-4 months. Crazy how clean my house has been.
