Looking to purchase a HD antenna. Live in denham springs. This would be used for a diaster situation when cable goes out

I have the Mohu Leaf 50 (indoor antenna).

Works great and took less than five minutes to set up.

Paid less than $40.

There's really no such thing as an HD antenna. An antenna is an antenna. What you need to be sure to get is a UHF/VHF antenna because two of our local stations are VHF. VHF antennas normally have a larger array to match the longer wavelength of the VHF signal. I think you're on the fringe for using an indoor antenna. You probably need at least an attic antenna. Something like THIS would do the trick. Just be sure you mount it on the side of your attic facing west toward the stations in Baton Rouge. Don't put it behind your ductwork or A/C unit.

You can go HERE to enter your address and find the best compass heading to point your antenna.

ETA You'll get around 25 digital channels in the Baton Rouge area. Most of the digital stations broadcast one or more channels in addition to their main one.

AS good a piece of advice as the OP could get. The compass headings from TV Fool are really helpful.

Amazing to me how few people realize this about the antenna itself.

I have one similar to that, the Terk HDTVa, IIRC. It's huge and far less effective than the un-amped Winegard Flatwave, which picks up all my locals, including WAFB.

These are not big at all, so the huge part is throwing me. It could fit on a piece of legal paper(I think).

I had a flat one-it sucked. I've gone through no telling how many because of camping. SS has been the best, and often outperforms the powered RV antenna on the roof of my 5er.

Here's the Terk I have:

LINK

In addition to not working worth a crap in my home, amped or unamped, it's enormous, unsightly, and balances very poorly on its base. Maybe the Silver Sensor is great, but ISTR the Terk being talked about as a superior clone of that antenna.

I think the one constant in antenna choice is YMMV.
