Recessed Lighting- Too FN many choices

I am replacing ceiling fans and light fixtures with recessed lighting.
The options for a remodel are overwhelming. I was thinking about using the old can style (retrofit) and screwing in LED bulbs.
Any suggestions? Electrician will do the work, but he is not guiding me on choices.
Seems like the LED are in a state of flux and no standards to rely on going forward.

The MEP firm I work with always specs Cooper/Eaton Lighting, and we mostly start off with their products when doing lighting calculations. I've only been in the biz for 7 months, so I can't speak from personal experience, but this decision was made between a guy with 30+ years experience and another one with nearly 15.
I don't agree. Only issue with LED is that they currently (LOL) have a high inrush current, similar to fluorescent fixtures. Still, the lengthy lifetime and improved efficiency over incandescents make them very worthy.
Also, though it's not a huge deal, don't put your existing (most likely) incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs. Even if they're the same color temperature, you'll be able to see the difference. Something like LED in the kitchen and incandescent in the bedroom is fine, but LED in the kitchen and incandescent in the living room (in an open floor plan) will look off, not matter how much you try to match the colors.
