I plan to have a pair of speakers on the porch and a single stereo speaker in another room. All are 8 ohms. I planned on connect the left channel of both pairs together and the right channels together at a wall plate, and going from the receiver to the wall plate with one wire per channel. Is this ok? Should I use a speaker selector instead?

I think I found the answer. The amp can only handle 6-8 ohms so if have to wire the speakers in series instead or use a speaker selector

You can do that but the second pair will not play as loud as the first pair. Speaker selector is a better option.
