Question about Nexus device pricing

So I think I want to get the 9 to replace my 3rd gen iPad. But, it's like 399, and most of the reviews say the hardware is shitty.
Do any of you tech folks have thoughts on when we may see some dip in pricing? Some sites have predicted it'll get a slight Thanksgiving drop from retailers, maybe 379 or something, but that still seems steep for a device that is getting pretty widely panned. I'm not against paying that much for a tablet, I just don't want to overpay if a lack of demand has these things at 299 by Christmas.
Unfortunately, I haven't found much in the way of alternatives.

The cracks on the Nexus 9 are retarded. For example, Engadget is holding off on their review because Google released an update the night before the NDA expired. I'd wait another few weeks to get legitimate reviews prior to making a decision.
That said, the iPad is probably still the better tablet at this point, purely from an app availability standpoint.

There is no doubt the iPad is still on top. But I just want to sling the thing across the room sometimes because I'm so used to Android and Apple is so invasive.
But there are a ton of reports about light leakage and the back of the 9 having fit/finish issues, etc.
