Question about digital converter box for my HDTV

So I've been receiving basic cox cable (channels 1-70) by plugging the coaxial cable from the wall into my TV. Not HD programming but hey, it'll do.
I turn on my TV last night and half my channels are missing. Apparently Cox is going digital. They want me to purchase a "mini digital converter" box through them but I would rather purchase one through other means.
What's the best converter to purchase, and will all I have to do is hook it up (plug the coaxial from the wall into the converter, then the converter into my TV) or is there more that I'm missing?

You can`t purchase another box to use for cox`s digital services from my understanding.

So you got free cable for years and now you are upset because you will have to pay?
