Are they worth it?
I've been toying with a protonmail account for about a year now and haven't switched over because I'm so tied to google.
Thoughts on the actuality of the security? Is it worth it if you're tied to Google in significant ways?
(I saw the recent DDoS attacks that shut down Sweden for ProtonMail as well.)

For end to end encryption to work both parties have to use proton. I have an account, but haven't really messed with it.

There are plenty of free Chrome plugins that will do end-to-end encryption for gmail. Virtru is a good one. Google is in the process of developing its own PGP plugin.
