because your original quesetion was:

quote:

I have the plex player running on my chromecast and all the faces appear to have a painted look.

i simply asked how does it look when you cast to the chromecast from your phone?

the question was more to see if that solved your problem.

It looks great when I normally cast from my phone's home screen.

Youtube looks perfect, but that is a chromecast capable app.

Also, I use a chromecast in my bedroom too, and it has the same issue.

I don't remember it ever being an issue before the Wisconsin game

I like the plex interface and that it tracks what I've watched. I can move from my living room to my bedroom and resume the movie/show there

I like it a lot. It is on CW though, so you'll have some annoying episodes and corny crap. All in all, well worth the watch.

I'm thinking that the Roku and Xbox are directly playing it, and the Chromecast has to transcode it.

I built that desktop over 5 years ago when I was on a budget, so it might have problems keeping up with that

Looks like that may be the case:

quote:

- Enable any subtitle --> transcoding
- No subs, 1Mbit quality, MKV --> transcoding
- No subs, 1Mbit quality, MP4 --> transcoding
- No subs, max quality, MKV --> transcoding
- No subs, max quality, MP4 --> no transcoding

Plugged it into the back of the xbox and the issues stopped.

No idea what is causing it

I'm still lost as to why you don't just use the xbox....You've just plugged your plex into another plex..!

Xbox One doesn't have some features that I want like casting my phone screen, computer, HBOgo, etc.

I also use a chromecast in the bedroom, so now I need to see if it is having issues. I'm not sure why which hdmi input i plug it into has an impact

good point. the tv you had it plugged directly into...that had all the problems..could have been related to settings specific to that HDMI port.

for instance, when i first set up my onkyo it had some type of 'image enhancement' shite (can't remember the proper name) that completely fricked up my tv picture. i was about to put the damn thing back in the box until i realized i needed to change the pass through or something. i changed one setting and the picture immediately became perfect again.

in other words, check your HDMI settings on that HDMI port (1080i, etc.) might be set oddly from the last time you plugged something in.
