looking to hang a flat screen under my porch. probably going to buy a refurbished one off of woot. any insight to ways to make it last the longest in an outdoor south louisiana enviornment? will building a waterproof box with shutters help? are any brands better for outdoors than others? or should i just prepare to buy a new tv every 2 years or so and just hang it without protection?

new to the tech board so sorry if this has already been discussed. Thanks

I've had vizios outside for 6 or 7 years without problems. Only under patio, no special protection. Just get a cheap tv and hang it up.

Just buy a shitty one and plan to replace it periodically. frankly, you will only use it a couple of months of the year due to the weather/mosquitos, so it will probably last a pretty good while if you bring it inside during the off seasons.

I would be hesitant to build anything too robust to protect it, as it has to have pretty good airflow to keep it cool. TV's made for outdoors are ridiculously expensive.

I have a Vizio outside on my patio under the covered portion. I got a weatherproof cover off of Amazon for like $30-40 and haven't had any issues whatsoever.

Bought a 50" TCL with a Roku built in off of Amazon for $378 last summer around this time. Working like a champ...

My cheap arse TV has been on the screen porch about 10 years 24/7/365 in MS. I clean the pollen off the screen in the spring and it's good to go for another year.
