Officially cutting the cord and moving to Roku-

Yes I have read a whole lot of the stickied thread. That is what I based a lot of my research on as well as reviews and youtube videos.
We have been overpaying Cox for quite some time and I am tired of dealing with them. I will list what I have and plan on getting. The point of this thread is to gather more specifics regarding Kodi and specifically what apps I need to view the things I normally watch with cable. I am not very tech savy so please bear with me.
Samsung Smart Tv- It was a gift, and yes I know I dont use it to its full capability. Again, I am not great with this stuff.
Cox internet- very fast so not worried about it
Wifi extender
Netflix
Amazon prime
Getting
Roku 4 and streaming stick- plan to use stick for bedroom and outside tv
Kodi- looking for more info regarding installation and use
HD Antenna- dont know which brand/type is best
Sling Tv
Main things I am worried about are ESPN and SECN for LSU games, especially with baseball coming up.
Please let me know if I am missing something for this conversion or if certain things arent necessary and overlap. I could get access to a cox account info, but id rather not just to make it easier.

You can't install KODI on a Roku, man.
Get a Fire Stick.

Good to go with these things here.

What exactly are you looking for from a streaming device?

Sling TV is legit, but $25 a month for SECN. Would you be able to get a cable log in from a family member or friend?

I just assumed you could do it and pretty sure I saw a youtube video on it.
So then all I need is the roku and maybe sling tv?
Live in BR so should have good reception with the antenna.

Take a look at the Tivo Bolt as your DVR. I posted THIS a few days ago in another thread.

Why are you interested in Roku? Just wondering.

It seemed to get better reviews/responses than the firetv. Aslo I believe I saw here not all services were available with firetv/fire stick.
I just will not pay for cable anymore. Our bill is outrageous and they keep increasing it.

Looks like with that everything I need is available on the roku itself.

KODI isn't, though. That's the thing. Free access to every show you want, any movie you want, and live sports for free.

So then what is your suggestion for that? Can kodi not go on the roku stick? Is it only fire stick?

KODI Can't go on the ROKU. That's what Rocket was laughing at.
Of the tv streaming apps I listed, if any of those are deal breakers (for not being on Fire TV), then maybe go with ROKU. but if you don't really give a shite about either of those, then go with the Fire TV.
watchESpn
Fox Sports Go
Disney
PBS
A&E
History
HBO Go
All are on there.
KODI will allow you to stream pretty much any sporting event (albeit, not in the best quality). I watch NFL Redzone every sunday on it. Every movie that's not in theaters right now is on there. Complete seasons of TV shows that aren't on Netflix or Prime are on there.
Its really solid man.

Hmmm may have to do that then.
Go more into this. Seems like the smart tv would be kinda wasted if that is the case. Would be perfectly ok with the outside patio tv.

Its basically a jailbroken app that's side loaded into your fire tv stick or fire TV
On the KODI app, there are several other apps inside it, such as Genesis and Sports Devil.
Genesis is an entertainment app that has TV shows and Movies on it. You click on Genesis, select TV or Movie, search your show (Once you find your show, you can save it to your library so you don't have to search again), and click on the TV show. Select a season, an episode, then a bunch of sources will load up. Each source is a different internet link to the show. They are listed in order of HD, High Quality, Medium Quality, Low Quality. Click one, laod it up, and watch your show.
Sports Devil is different and not as organized, but it works.

So you are suggesting probably a fire tv for the main tv and a stick for the bedroom/patio. Kodi on both.
I am assuming you arent high on Plex with the roku?

Doesn't Plex cost money?
I use the Fire Stick for my main TV. The $100 Fire TV isn't really worth it unless you putting a lot of shite on it. I only use my stick to watch TV and movies. 2 Sticks are probably good enough.

$5 for add ons I believe.
Since it is a one time cost I still may get the firetv and one/2 sticks. I know it runs faster and could support 4k, although not every app does.
May be a waste of an additional 50 bucks but Im paying 3.5-4x that a month now anyway.

Good luck
KODI is a simple install if you stick to it. Take everything the install says literally.

Some of the apps on Roku still ask for your cable login information FYI(ex: Disney, FX Now, etc). So you still have to have cable for those.
