If you are not a developer you dont understand half of this keynote. It is called WWDC. It's why I said earlier that I expect a seperate event to announce hardware.

A new programming language. Another one to learn. Like I said in a thread a few weeks ago, the learning never stops in IT

Looks like it's called 'Swift'

Well, Cook seemed to hint something unexpected was coming today.

My wildest guess is opening up Apple TV for devs.

If it was hardware, we'd probably already know about it.

Tim Cook might be the worst public speaker ever.

From a consumer standpoint that was a horrible WWDC. If you are a developer you probably got a hard on right now. lol

Went as expected. No hardware. Consumers dont care about all that crap they were talking about.

I'm not a Dev so I can understand the disappointment from the consumer side. But I'm just enough of a geek to see the implications of Swift and the other things they did for developers. Ultimately we should get better apps.

ETA: and better support for those apps.

Consumers are going to have to be patient. Alot of new abilities were given to developers today which will improve the overall feel of the phone coming this fall.

The reduced overhead for Metal is what excites me the most, especially when you consider the possibilities it would allow with the inevitable A8 SoC in the iPhone 6.

you get a message while you're doing something else, and you just can't be bothered to switch apps. With iOS 8, you can pull down from that notification shade and respond from right there. It's not limited to messages, either -- you'll be able to like/comment on Facebook messages or handle your calendar events.

...you can start commands by speaking "hey, Siri" (much like Android KitKat's "OK Google") instead of holding down the home button.

1) I wonder how Hey Siri will affect battery life and 2) if Siri is always listening to me, is she always streaming everything I say to Apple's data centers? It seems like for both purposes of bandwidth and battery life, local processing of the "Hey Siri" command would then kick off the cloud based service.

Agreed. The iPhone experience is going to be really nice next fall.

To tell you the truth, I'm good with what was announced. I like that they are making the phone more useful with better notifications, messaging, and usage of TouchID and I love the way they are finally creating opportunities for developers to do cool things.

Good enough for me to stick around for another year.

All the Apple fan boys at work, who are dev guys and develop an iPhone app in-house, are extremely disappointed with today's news

0 f's given by me as I don't mess with Apple products
