just bought a laptop from Amazon, and the hardware configuration was different than what was shown in the stock photos when I bought it. really frustrating. the seller was apologetic about the mismatch of what I got and what was shown, so i'm returning it for a full refund

i'm thinking of buying the same laptop from NewEgg, which I've never used before. anyone have experience with the site? reliable? I just asked the seller a question to confirm that the laptop I'm considering is the same as the stock photo (besides the color), and i'm waiting for an answer

i've noticed that some sellers have storefronts on both amazon and newegg.

any other tech site you recommend for laptops before I potentially buy from newegg?

TIA

NewEgg is an OG in the online tech world. I have used them without issue, well I had an issue once and they refunded me immediately and didn't want the wrong product back, but it was just wrong cables.

thanks for the feedback

any issues regarding items not being the exact ones you ordered? (i.e. an item not having the same specs as what was shown on the website?)

The original NewEgg was sold, now they operate the same "storefront" model as Amazon. That being said I don't think you'll have an issue if you buy from Newegg itself vs one of their merchants. I've bought stuff direct from Newegg without issues. I'd check B&H Photo Video as well.

That place has some really good deals at times. I was a little nervous the first time I used them, the name makes it seem sketchy

NewEgg has been 100% reliable and I’ve purchased from them for many years. I would think 5at their reviews verify this.

Nah, they just shipped the wrong type of cable, I got the right ones a couple days later. Someone just grabbed the wrong type, I imagine they have tons of packages that look similar.

B&H is legit. Only issue I ever had with them was I ordered an 8TB refurb hard drive and they sent a 2TB instead. I was worried they would think I was trying to pull a fast one but they did the exchange no problem.

NewEgg is probably far more predictable than Amazon when it comes to tech. You put in a model number, it doesn't show you hard drives "like" the model number you put in in the first five results, it shows you what you asked for. I always prefer them for components.

It definitely is legit, I probably didn't phrase it as well as I should have. The name put me in mind of some small film development/photography shop in NYC (I guess they kind of are but jumped on the mail order/e-comerce wagon early) so I was a little apprehensive until I bought a few things from them. This was before they received all the accolades they have in the last 10-15 years. It has been a while though since I shopped them, so it is good to know they survived COVID.

For quite a few years through 2022, I've ordered a lot of HP plotter supplies, laser toner and DJI drone parts without any problems.
I've never had a problem nor did I have to return anything.

One of the big Youtube PC stuff reviewers had a issue with Newegg and their return policy. To a point where they won't recommend them for stuff. I think it was Jay-something. I haven't had an issue with Newegg. I did purchase as a 24" monitor as a secondary and the corner of the box delivered damaged. When I plugged the monitor in, there was a small white spot in the upper corner where the box had been damaged. I sent pics to Newegg and they refunded my money and didn't ask for the monitor back. It was $100 bucks. That is my only return story and I built my entire rig last year with stuff ordered from Newegg.

I used to order almost exclusively from NewEgg, but it really went downhill after it got sold to China.

There has been a big stink about NewEgg knowingly selling motherboards, GPUs, CPUs, etc... that were RMA'd as new and people receiving these "new" items that had clearly been opened and used.

I would buy from B&H Photo now long before I would buy from NewEgg.

oh well, gotta look elsewhere

Yeah BH is rock solid

In terms of major online tech retailers, they're probably the closest to Amazon or Apple in the sense of being consumer friendly - things getting packaged well, communication is very good, things shipped very quickly, etc.

B&H is almost white glove compared to the shite that is out there these days.

I ordered 8 2 TB hard drives. One was damgaged in transit.

Did online support. Either chat or email. Had a return label and refund pretty dang quick.

It was GamersNexus (not JayzTwoCents).

I don't really remember the details anymore but I won't buy from Newegg anymore after seeing what they put them through.

Newegg is legit, you have nothing to worry about. Have always been tops in terms of customer service.

I've been using both B&H and NewEgg for many years, and have never had an issue with either.
