Looking to pull trigger on New phone, what are my top three options out right now, thanks

The new HTC nexus Marlin or smaller Sailfish releases in a month, or the Nexus line from last year at a great discount right now. That's the best you will get for android.
The Nexus 6p is a great buy right now. Best buy has the 128gb for 499. This is the phone I currently use. I am a biased, Nexus only user though. I did have Motorolas Moto X Pure for a while before the wife wanted it. That's a great phone as well.

The nexus 6p works on AT&T correct. How do I switch over from my current phone? How does it work?

Yes. Buy it, insert sim card. Done. Are you on Android now? If so, all your contacts, photos, etc should be automatically backed up to your gmail. Just pop in sim card and go.

So it's guaranteed that your sim card will fit into that phone?
The current phone is a HTC One M8

How does it compare to the S7 active?

OnePlus 3 or wait for the new Nexus phones.

Yes. They both use a nano sim.
Also, the One Plus 3 is a great device. However, Nexus has it's advantages such as pure Android, first for software updates and guaranteed for 3 years, tons of development for rooting/ROMs. You are not guaranteed that with any other manufacturer or device. Here is a youtube comparison of the one plus 3 vs the nexus 6p at the 400 dollar price point. You decide.

How does it work when swapping a phone with Micro SIM to a new phone with Nano SIM?

I wanted the one plus three but I had to have a phone yesterday so I went with the 6p as well. I'm thinking of getting the SO a one plus three for Christmas so I can compare and take the one I like the best.

I would probably wait for one of the new Nexus phones.

Walk into the your local carriers store, tell them you need a new sim. That's it. They will swap it out for you free of charge. You can also cut a micro SIM down to a nano size with a sim cutter, but its easier to just stop in at your local store and get a new one.

This is sad, but we have all done it. Our poor wives being used for our tech addictions.

This is my ultimate answer. But the 6p or OP3 is a great choice and you'd love either one. Samsung is garbage. Crappy hardware and the shittiest software that is an embarrassment to android. Would not recommend. I'd suggest an iPhone before that overpriced POS. For the value and just straight up head to head, the OP3 is better. The new Nexus should be 2016s best once again if you can wait a month or so.

I have Nexus 6p also and it's the best phone I've ever had. I'm running new Nougat right now and it's amazing

HTC Marlin and Sailfish.
I just got a 6P. Damn nice phone.
Doesn't charge quite as quickly as the 6, but battery life is ridiculous. Mine last almost 2 days on a full charge and a quick 15 minute charge at the 24 hour mark.

Into my third day with the 6p. I have mixed feelings. Horror at the amount of money I spent on it mixed with joy because it's hands down the best phone I've ever had. I don't feel cheated by not waiting on the new Nexus. You can't go wrong with the 6p.
