Not sure if anyone here is an expert on finding an antenna.

Here is my TV Fool report: Auburn, AL

All I really need is CBS for football games. I'd like Fox and NBC for the NFL, but I can live without it. The wife really wants PBS for Downton Abbey, but we may pick up Hulu which would solve that problem.

I can mount the antenna on the roof, but we do have some trees around.

Make one. Its simple, cheap and it works. I get 20 channels with 75% of them in HD. It cost me about $10 to make it with coat hangers, screws and washers, wire and a connector for the coax.

I used the DTV cable they installed after I cancelled the service.

I looked at your distances....if u connect on the roof you should be fine....go to Wal-Mart and buy a clearstream 2v antenna....it should work...

try this before spending a lot of cash

^^^^^^Thats what I made^^^^^^. There is no way I would spend $100 on an antenna because a salesman or website claim its the best. Its radio waves. If you spend more than $30 on an antenna you are throwing money away.

I'm going to try this in a little bit.

But I"m having a real hard time understanding how a coat hanger can pick up HD tv from 51 miles away.

Because it has to do with the distance the V coat hanger pieces are apart from each other. Same with a $100 antenna. It works and its cheap. You always have the option of buying an antenna that looks good if you arent impressed.
