We had an older dish that we upgraded with the Direct TV swm conversion kit. I hooked it up exactly as the diagrams show but the direct tv receiver is giving us a 775 error, receiver doesn't detect swm. This happens immediately after the receiver shows it's searching for satellite.

The receiver is a model HR44-500 and the dish conversion kit is SL5S4NR2-14.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm at the point of wanting to break everything from not being able to figure it out.

I heard good things about the Dish TV Tailgater. I know it doesn't answer your question, but you should look into it. Believe you buy that dish and you pay for it during football season.

Do you go in setup and pick the new swm type? You will see all the different types like 3 LNB, 5LNB etc. You have to pick the exact one.

If you "Repeat Satellite Setup" you will see options for Dish, Switch and Tuner that need to match what you converted to.

It's not letting me change it from the 3. I select the 5 on the setup screen but then it switches back to the 3. Any ideas on how to change it.

You may need to do a hard reset (red button to left of card on front panel).Make sure that when you try to set up the box that you go thru the Repeat Sat Set Up when you have it hooked up to the new dish.

Do you have a Swim power inserter connected to your set up?

Yes, that was part of the conversion. Changed out the end of the dish (don't know the technical term) added the swm power box, and swm splitter.

I can't seem to get the satellite type to change when I do reset up satellite. Staying 3sl instead of going to 5sl that I'm selecting

775 error means your receiver isn't detecting the lnb (bulb thing on dish). Disconnect the two coax cables on the power inserter. Touch the two copper parts of the coax cables together and reconnect the two cables to the power inserter. Unplug power inserter and wait 30 seconds and plug it back in. If that doesn't work you have a bad connection or it's possible the lnb is bad out of the box.

It's easier to run a non swim set up at a tailgate. Don't need a power inserter and all the HD channels can be received with a 3sl lnb.

What are your receiver options? HR-34 and up are Swim DVR receivers and H-25 is a non dvr swim receiver. You got a receiver with a lower # than 25?

Your stuck with Swim then. Did your swim kit come with a splitter and are you using it in current set up? if yes. Remove it and run the coax from the lnb straight to the power inserter. See if that makes any difference.

Did the kit come with coax cables or are you using your own cables? 775 error means the receiver can not detect the dish and defaults back to the setting for the last working dish.

Are you sure you know which coax goes from the dish to the inserter and which goes from the inserter to the box?

I know you said you set it up correctly, but you'd be surprised how often people mess that up. It's not labeled clearly on the inserter.

word of warning: if you hook this up wrong it's possible to fry the box.

I actually tried the hookup both ways from the power inserter. Got the same result both ways.

I think our issue might be the receiver is not letting me change the satellite type. Its set on SL3 right now but the dish we are using is a 5. When I change the satellite type to a 5 in the reset up screen it switches back to the 3.

In the future i'd advise against that. Like i said it has the potential to fry the box.

I realize this is a different issue entirely, just giving you a heads up.

It won't let you change the satellite type because the receiver is not getting any signal from the dish. Hence the 775 error.

Try different coax cables or replace the barrel connectors on the end of the coax cables. There is only three things in play that cause a 775 error. Bad lnb, bad power inserter, or bad connection (bad coax cable, bad barrel connector on coax cable, cables not conncted to the correct input)
