My wife (no pics) "needs" a computer. She doesn't do any heavy computing - basically typically social media stuff, make scrapbooks of baby pictures, occassional word processing. She loves her iPhone and iPad, so I think she would like a Mac.

Is this dated? LINK

Someone has the exact model locally on Craigslist, so I may try and lowball them. Thoughts?

It uses a circa-2012 processor, but is upgradeable so you can add an SSD and more ram. As for light computing, that is still a fine computer.

You could also check out macbook airs and get something that is about the same price, newer, and with better battery life.

Get her the gold macbook or an 11" air. Whatever you do, get an SSD.

That's a pretty good deal. new it was $900. Just make sure your wife is fine with an 11" screen. And make sure it boots up before you buy it.

ETA: I've seen a few women say they like the 11" so much because it fits in their purse.

ETA2: Yes, all Airs and the new MacBooks come with SSD's

how big of a deal is no "Retina Display". I'm sure she will watch Netflix on it as well.

Unless she's seen and used the retina MacBook it's not a big deal. Once she sees and uses one though it's hard to go back.
