MacBook Air...how much storage to get?

About to pull the trigger. I will only be using for the basics: web, pics, music, etc. Will the 128gb flash be enough or should I pony up the extra $$$ and get the 256gb?

going with the i5 and 4gb RAM? I bought my wife one back in the spring and went ahead with the i7, 8gb, 256ssd...do you plan to install parallels and run a windows VM?

I thought about sticking with the i5 and just upping the flash to 256? No parallels. Any suggestions?

How much are those now? I recommend getting the new macbook if the prices are closer. It's basically a much better designed and faster Air.

I5 with 256gb flash retail is $1199.

Oh yeah I'd definitely recommend the macbook then.
The base model specs for only 100 more.
256GB PCIe-based onboard flash storage1
1.1GHz dual-core
Intel Core M processor
Turbo Boost up to 2.4GHz
8GB memory
Intel HD Graphics 5300
$1,299.00
And not sure how much looks matter to you, but I think the macbook looks way sleeker than the Air these days.

You are right. No comparison looks wise when they are side by side.

I have the space gray one myself, but they also have gold.

MBP >>> Air
And to add the cliche: it's not close at all.

Right now it's not faster. The Macbook is on par with a 2012 Macbook Air.

My 2011 Air runs circles around my brothers 2011 Pro for most basic tasks because of the SSD.

Are we talking 2011?
The new MBP has an SSD

I have an Air and it's plenty fast for me. Love that thing.

I know it does.

Of course it's fast. I'm not arguing it isn't. But for basically the same price, you can get much more as well as all the ports most people need.

I had a circa 2012 MBP and it died so I went with a 1.6 i5 4 GB MB Air. The battery life is amazing and it is fast enough for what I do. I'm glad I didn't get the new mac book as I do need USB ports. I know it has USB 3 or whatever.

I have a 2013 Air with 8GB RAM and 256gb hard drive and I love it. Super fast and battery last forever.

If you don't minded asking broadhead, what all are you using yours for? Any regrets? Any recommendations?

I'm an IT consultant so I use it for email, ms office, internet but also ssh into switches routers and such. I just like the size of it and how it immediately turns on when you open the lid. I tried a surface pro and put windows 10 on it and I did like it but the keyboard and trackpad are too small for everyday all day use.
For my use the air does everything I need and just as good as my older macbook pro did.

The air is pretty much the perfect laptop. I have a 2012 air 128 SSD and it's the best machine I've ever owned.
