I can buy a Macbook air from the local university surplus store for $200
How much am i looking at spending for a hard drive since they remove those?
Can i get any hard drive that says it is compatible with the model of macbook?
Models they currently have is A1370 and A 1466
Thanks

As long as you can open it up(Not so easy on newer macs) you should be able to put a standard ssd in there. price is dependent upon size, but you can get a good 500gb for $200
ETA, I think some airs use msata ssd's

you want a solid state drive.
grab whatever capacity drive you think you'll need from a major brand (kingston, wd, sandisk, crucial, samsung, etc). don't waste your money on a high end pro series drive, you wont see a benefit for that extra spend.

I'd recommend going through OWC at Macsales.com as they sell the kits needed to do the replacements as well as any possible compatible drives.

Yep, make it easy on yourself and go through OWC. They have 3 or maybe 5yr warranty on their SDDs too which I've taken them up on once as well.
