I've had bad luck with using an antenna to pick up ABC and CBS in the Baton Rouge area. Can anyone recommend an HD attic antenna?

Make sure your antenna of choice is capable of VHF AND UHF stations. Baton Rouge has a mix. (The link above is a good example of one with both.) Could have been your original issue..

I got this one in my attic. It's omnidirectional so you don't have to aim it in a particular direction. It's actually so good I didn't have to install it on a beam. It's literally resting on the ground in my attic.

Clearstream 4V

I've had this one for a couple years in my attic. Picks up around 10 channels on the MS Gulf Coast including all major affiliates.

Why are people calling them "hd" antennas? They're just antennas.

When HD came out places like Best Buy sold RCA indoor antennas and then called them HD which magically turned them into $40 antennas instead of $10.

I keep all of my "HD" coat hangers just in case I want to start a side job.

Also I bought an 1987 house a couple years ago and it came with an original large "HD" antenna in the attic. The makers of this antenna must have been forward thinkers since HD isn't out yet but I get 22 channels haha

Antennas are designed differently to pick up different frequencies (VHF vs. UHF). During the digital transition the vast majority of television stations ended up on UHF and some high-VHF with very few on low-VHF. Thus an "HDTV Antenna" is really just a UHF antenna.

That having been said, of course you can usually pick up most stuff with any old antenna.

Instead of making a new post maybe y'all can help. In need of a antenna for a tablo. I can get it in my attic easy I believe so I put 12' elevation in the tvfools site and got these results. The roof has that tecshield foil backed stuff if that matters.

My CH in living room is 12' and that is where my antenna is over. I hung it off the collar bracing so its about another 4' or so above that. You want as much clear space between it and an obstruction (rafters, water heaters, a/c ducting, shite your wife had you store that really should be thrown away) as possible. Any metal around the antenna in the direction it is pointed can interfere with your signal.

This might be a deal breaker but Im not sure. I know techshield can kill a cellphone signal. In my research on attic antenna installs, several sites mentioned not having any metal near the antenna. Might need to research a bit more before pulling the trigger on an attic install.

I saw that one..my tablo arrives today so I amy grab something at best buy like the CS4v is what I was looking at in the past. Seems it should be good? Would I need a db booster?

It does and I was worried about that. Thas why I looked at the cs4v becasue it said 70 mile range with clear view...seemed like a good strong start? And should catch all that is possible. I can do it outside as well...attic is just easier.

You might be onto something here with the longer range antenna. Id give it a shot and see. You can hook Tablo up first over WiFi in the attic to test it before you permanently mount it somewhere.

From my antenna to Tablo is about 25' and I did not need one.

Thats my plan and why I went this way vs trying to do a hdhomerun and plex. This way is fast and easy to get running so I can cut the 200+ drtv bill fast. I may switch to a full blown plex type thing but for now kodi tablo and drtv (35/mo) will get it. I got that v4 antenna and a cheep 14$ rabbit ear RCA to see if the big thing is needed in the attic when I live.
