So I was looking into getting the 50$ kindle for reading in the pool and at the beach (don't want to chance my iPad getting ruined) and I've read they are useless outside.

Has anyone found an anti glare protector that helps with the sunlight? Looking at reviews and most of them seem to be crap.

Get an e-reader. The B&N Nook is excellent and does epub natively.

A Kindle Fire is just an Amazon tablet. It's backlit with the same limitations as any other backlit tablet.

You want a Kindle Paperwhite, IIRC. I have a Kindle touch and it's fine, although I don't read a whole lot outside. But, I get no glare and the gray screen doesn't bother me. I am considering getting a Paperwhite this year though, just because, new stuff.

The 50$ price tag was what interested me and I thought maybe there was a 10$ or so screen protector that would help. Guess you get what you pay for.

The anti-glares (which I guess are the new Paperwhites) are selling for $80 on Amazon right now.
