Kids Apple Watch pairing questions.

So my kid got an Apple Watch for Christmas and it doesn't pair with his old iPhone 4. I can't find a way to not pair it with anything for the time being so it can still be used as a watch. The only option I have is to pair it to my phone. The problem with that is I don't want all my calls, emails, texts, etc going to his Watch. What are my options?

Buy a newer iPhone for him, that's pretty much your only option since you didn't check compatibility before hand for an obsolete phone.
