Going to Cancun Thursday for a wedding and just had a couple questions regarding my AT&T iphone.

1. I don't care about making calls. I hate talking on the phone so I don't need a calling plan. The only thing I'm interested in is how do I turn data on my phone off?

2. If I turn data on my phone off, is it possible to still run wi-fi?

3. iMessaging, as I'm sure many know, doesn't run off of phone service, but rather internet availability. Is it possible for me to just be hooked up to the resort's wifi and iMessage without fees and what not while having my actual cell and data services off?

Airplane mode is easiest if you don't care about calls.

Airplane mode turns off wifi. Just turn wifi back on separately and your cell radio stays off.

Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data [OFF]

Yes you can use wifi. Yes you can iMessage on wifi.

ETA: Source - I did this when I went to cancun and had no extra charges to my account. The resort wifi was awesome, although I told myself I wasn't going to check email so I just used it to run Spotify at the gym and at night in the room.

Because android owners either a)know their phone backwards and forwards or b) don't even realize Mexico is a foreign country.

Airplane mode is all you need, it will still allow you connect to wifi to text when available.

With cellular data off, you may still receive text messages which will likely incur some charge.

iMessages won't cost you anything on wifi, but sending and receiving regular messages will.

Oh yeah, I would do Airplane mode instead of just turning off data, forgot about receiving texts.

Off topic, but hit up the duty free shops in the airport for alcohol before you fly to cancun. Thank me later.
