IOS Update/ Unread Emails

After the last update and suffering through the safari issues until coming here for a resolution, I'm now about to lose my mind with my home screen showing unread emails. Each email I receive shows it being unread, even though I'm sitting at my desktop and answering each one as they come in.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any quick solution for this issue?

Change your email settings on your phone to an imap account instead of a pop account.
