My 10 year old really likes making movies on iMovie. Our old MacBook Pro just gave up on us. Before spending a mint on a new Mac, I’d like to see if anyone here has a suggestion for an alternative movie making program. Pro and cons… What is the best Mac product for making movies?

What are you trying to do with iMovie? There are a bunch out there. I edit short videos with a $15 app called inShot on my phone. Canva has pretty decent editing options with a lot of features to add in.

I'd do this search with google and add "reddit" as there a ton of freelance video editors discussing the pros and cons of the softwares. I read a bunch of these posts when I looking for my own video editing tool.

I do a good bit of video editing for my drone business and I use Premier Pro, and Premier Rush for videos. Lightroom Classic and Photoshop for photos.

I run them on a Dell XPS 15 for now until I decide to do a big PC build specifically for editing.
