I need an alarm clock recommendation

Here's the deal: I don't like to use my cell phone and I want something with a few more bells and whistles. I saw some like the Sony Dash and Chubby but the reviews were mixed. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Why don't you like using your phone? I find it perfect. Alarm Clock Plus for the win.

It's just the way I am I guess.

Then you should definitely be using your phone.

Sleep cycle alarm app on your phone. An alarm clock can't measure your sleep cycles and wake you at the optimal time although I guess you could use a Fitbit or similar device.

I have this one, Sony Dream Machine, not sure it has the bells and whistles you are looking for.

I'd be late for work every day.

If your objection to using your phone is that it's too easy to pick up your phone and silence the alarm, I'd recommend the alarm app: I Can't Wake Up!
(assuming you have Android... I don't know if it's available on the iPhone or Windows phone)
This app is specifically for people who are inclined to shut off the alarm and continue sleeping. You can set up tasks (anywhere from one to about five) that you must perform before the alarm shuts down. Tasks are sort of like small games: putting tiles in order, memorizing a sequence of buttons, matching pairs or completing math problems, but may also include physical tasks like shaking the phone or making the phone expect to see a scanned bar code (which you would put somewhere far out of reach, like the bathroom.)
Note: The alarm isn't blaring the whole time (that would be annoying). It initially sounds, you hit the silence button, then you have a minute or two to complete the task(s) or it assumes you've drifted back to sleep and the alarm goes off again.

Do you know any? Fitbit Flex will only wake you at specific time.
I'd be willing to wear something that actually measures/detects my REM cycles and wakes me appropriately.
The one I recall seeing a while back had a setting that would wake you up BY a certain time. So if I set it at 6, but based on my REM cycles, optimal times would be 5:15 or 6:20, it'd wake me at 5:15.

I would need a new phone the next day. Because mine would have been thrown against the wall.

I don't have a problem with waking up or anything like that. I'm currently having to use the alarm app on my phone and I just don't like it. No particular reason.
