How to transfer texts from iPhone?

So I've run out of space on my bullshite 16gb iPhone. Really the only thing of significance on it is 3.3 gigs of texts. I want to clear up space but the information hoarder in me feels uneasy about deleting all those texts if there is a simple solution for me to just be able to save it to my external hard drive.
All ive found through googling are all these pay for use programs. Any (free) and easy solutions?

You sound like my wife. What in the hell do you need old texts for? Do you record your face to face conversations?

ive talked about phoneview before on here, works great if you have a mac. I think iexplorer works on a windows.
You can copy as a pdf as well as just drag and drop an save all the media files on phoneview.
If you want to bulk delete within a text, you can go to "Details" in the top right of a text and go through each one. Chances are a ton of videos are on a few messages taking up space.
