Bought a house last year that is pre-wired and house built-in speakers through out the house. So everything is basically ready to go.

Question...what is the most economical, easy to use device I need to get surround sound playing from regular TV use? A receiver I'm guessing? Any recommedations?

TIA

Does not make surround sound. It just makes stereo in different areas of the house. Wiring for 5 or more speakers in one room can make surround sound.

Does all the wiring go to one location? If so, where is this location? Are there volume controls or blank plates with speaker wire underneath them at switch level in the rooms?

Yes. Wires are coming out of the wall directly beside the cable outlet in the living room.

The wires are just sticking out from the wall at the moment, but now that you bring it up, there are some what I normally call light switches to the left near the fireplace that currently have no use. Is that for the speakers?

Where is the other end of the wiring? At the speakers? And they really left a bundle of wire sticking out from the wall?

Yep. But everything is covered now.
