Does an HD antenna have to have a clear line of sight to the sky? I have an out door TV under a patio and I would like to connect an antenna but keep it close to the back of the TV.

Is this possible?

No, many people have indoor antennas right behind the TV, while others have an antenna in the attic. While line of sight improves range, it's usually not necessary up to 50 miles or more.

Attic sucks for places farther than 50 miles. I bought the best antenna I could find.

Attic sucks for me at ~20 miles.

I have a radiant barrier roof so I'm sure that acts like a faraday cage. I brought a TV into the attic and hooked up the antenna to see how bad it was. 11 channels and those were spotty. Mounted it outside and I got 26 channels.

Rabbit ears near TV. I get a ton of channels so no need for outside antenna.

Don't have a link handy but look up antenna placement or ota tower locater or something of the sort. You can put in your address and it'll show you what stations are around you, what kind of antenna you'd need to catch them and in what direction.
