I'm having issues with my graphics card and was wondering if anyone could offer some insight. Last night while on the desktop my computer kept crashing. The screen would go black for a couple of seconds, come back, then black out again before crashing to a BSOD.

Between the screen black outs I saw a windows message saying "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" and the BSOD had a STOP: 0x116 error message. I did some digging and found out this was a graphics card issue. I ended up uninstalling my previous drivers and installed the newest set but the issues still persisted.

I uninstalled the drivers a second time, this time using drive sweeper in safe mode and reinstalled the new drivers. Same thing would happen, I'd get the windows message but it wouldn't crash to the BSOD anymore, the screen would just be frozen.

I restarted it again and it continued cycling that message a couple of times, screen going black off and on, before it sort of settled down and I was able to actually navigate my desktop. It started working as normal again (something it wasnt able to do before the new drivers) so I did another restart just to see if the issue happened as I logged in again. It didnt and seems to functioning normally for now.

I was just wondering if any of you guys had any experience with this kind of problem. I made sure the card was seated correctly, didnt see any obvious signs of defect in the card, temps are all okay, dusted everything and didn't see any of the normal signs of a graphics card dying when I loaded up a game.

Just sounds like a normal driver issue that you solved.

I don't think you need to worry.

The fact it did it the first time I rebooted after installing the new drivers is what worries me. That and I know my computer is nearing the end of its life cycle (built it six years ago). I guess I'm just a worrier .

Could be a power issue too...

That was one of the things that I considered and was going to be the next thing I tested. If it starts happening again I'll take a closer look at that.
