Firestick vs FireTV

Sorry if this can be found somewhere all ready. I'm in the process of cutting the cord (have read most of that monster thread) and was wondering the difference between the stick and TV in terms of adding kodi and streaming options. I know the storage size is different but that's about all I know.
Thanks.
Thanks.

If you're wanting something portable you can carry with you on trips and such easily, Firestick. FireTV is much, much better suited to being a full on media box. For one, you can hardwire it into internet instead of using wireless, which in my experience makes a big difference.

If wireless is the only option, then I should go with the stick?

Roku has the best interface for my money. They even have a portable stick now.
Firestick has the potential to jailbreak/sideload Kodi. You can get to some degree of "there" with workarounds for Roku, but that's about the only reason to recommend Amazon over Roku - and I say that as someone who is a longtime Amazon customer.
ETA: Disregard what I said about FireTV.

And, FTR - everyone knows that wireless is what consumers are "demanding" and that is the way the market is going. However, I like the certainty of wires, too. The Roku 3 and Roku 4 have Ethernet jacks as well as wifi.

Fire stick is a POS. At least mine is. So much slower than my roku 3

Also, you get better speeds through a hard wire rather than wireless, which can impact video quality.

You'll notice a difference in loading speed between the stick and box. You can plug a usb wireless keyboard into the box if you want to easily be able to type. Highly recommend box if money isn't an issue.

Firetv is wireless capable, but a wired connection is optimal for Kodi.

FireTV? Apple hardware is great. Their gilded cage and other closed aspects of their system are deal breakers.
Is the FireTV an Apple product?
Most people who I know that are heavy in the Kodi community are recommending the FireTV as the best bang for the buck. You can spend a lot more and end up with a device that isn't as good. The preloaded Kodi boxes for example. They're overpriced as hell because people are lazy and ignorant and want something ready to go out of the box. The irony is that they're going to have to learn how to install Kodi themselves eventually anyway once they want to upgrade to a new version. And btw, I was one of those people at one time.
I also keep a Prime Account and Netflix account (for ease of use for my kids and wife), and the FireTV has good interfaces/apps for both of those. Running them off of Kodi stinks.

I am tech illiterate. Is "hardware" using an Ethernet cable from the wireless router to the Apple TV box?

Meant to type "hardwire".

No. I jacked that up. My bad. Hand to G-d, I read it as "Apple TV."

Yes. Exactly.

FireTV box has 2gb of memory -vs- 1gb on the stick, in addition to having a network plug that allows you to use the faster Ethernet connection.
I have both. Spend the extra $ and get the box.

I have a Roku 3, Firestick and Chromecast.
I like the Roku the most and only use the others for specific things (Chromecast for casting stuff on my computer and Firestick for Fox and NBC sports apps). I'm sure the FireTV works a lot better and would alleviate some of my complaints, but I find the Roku interface to be much better to use.

For those suggesting the Roku: he specifically said that he's installing Kodi on it, which isn't currently possible on that device.
I do like the Roku otherwise, though.

I originally had firesticks but had trouble with them constantly dropping wifi connection (even right next to AC routers with gigabit internet service). I sold those to friends and now (1.5 years) have 3 of the boxes (all connected via Ethernet) and they work so much better.
When I've had to install kodi on firesticks for friends recently, I notice major lag compared to the boxes.
