Facebook recruiting an admin for an existing group?

I've been a semi-active member of a Facebook group for a few years and evidently the Admin of the group passed away over a year ago. The group has continued on autopilot with no major problems.
Today, I received a pop-up message from Facebook asking if I would agree to be the Admin for the group. When I clicked "yes", I found that I was indeed the admin, there were no other moderators, and no new members had been approved since the original admin had passed away.
Does anyone know if Facebook randomly requests for people to take over as admin for groups that haven't been managed in a while?
