The HDMI port is not working properly on my Samsung LCD.
Would I be able to use this?

Does your tv have USB? If so, I would recommend this one Best Buy offers. I used it on my last tv and saw that the picture was a lot better than component cables plugged in.

Yes it'll work. I just don't like plugging in component cables but that's just me. Some people don't mind but I feel like USB/HDMI gives better quality of picture.

I will look further. it is hard to get to the back of it since it is on the fireplace. I am going to have to get another tv but hope to use an external temporarily.

Right now is a good time to buy. All the 2017 model TV's are rolling out and the 2016 ones are on sale at Best Buy. I just bought a 65" LG that was originally $1399 for $999.

It would technically work but don't use it, it will turn your signal into an ugly mess. You would need an HDMI to component converter, not an HDMI to composite converter. Composite will look godawful as it doesn't support HD signals. HDMI to component will look fine, but won't support any devices that require HDCP copy protection--you will need pure HDMI for that.

You used this on a television?? I don't see how that would work. This is a USB video card for a computer.

So it won't work on its own?

It will work but your picture will look like an old TV from the 80s getting an antenna signal. Get a component converter. Trust me.

The product he linked to is a USB graphics card for a computer. I cannot possibly see how that would work as an input for a television. I'm not saying he's lying, but I think he's completely mistaken here.

Does your television have component input? Most do. If so, just get this converter. It will convert the HDMI signal to a component signal. It will look just as good. It just won't support devices with HDCP copy protection, but no other solution will support that either short of buying a new TV or repairing the HDMI on this one. This is really the only option you have.

yes sorry, i linked the wrong device. it looked similar to mine.

what i was trying to say is that i used an hdmi converter that was ran by components and i also used an hdmi converter that was ran by a usb.

i found the usb to give me a better quality picture over the components. but yes, the hdmi converter to components will work short term for you.
